Feng Shui and Singapore

Flying Star Feng Shui is about harnessing the energy from the stars (planets), sometimes called Heaven Qi.  In this school of Feng Shui, the most auspicious star in a given period is the Ruling Star of the period.  For instance, in Period 8, the Ruling Star No 8 is the most auspicious.  Here, I study the impact of Flying Star Feng Shui on the development of Singapore in Period 8.

In the Luo Shu Jiu Gong Yuan or Nine Palace Grid (please see the grid below), the ruling Star No 8 resides in Northeast.

Northeast - sector where Ruling Star No 8 resides

In Period 8, the northeastern part of the world (notably China, Korea, Japan, Mongolia and eastern parts of Russia) is considered to be most "auspicious".  Thus, it is likely to experience faster economic development than other parts of the world.  It will also capture more media attention and enjoy stronger tourist arrivals.

Punggol's & SengKang's rapid development owes much to Auspicious Star No 8

In the same vein, the northeastern part of any country is also likely to benefit from its effect.  For example, in Singapore where I live, the northeastern part of the country has never before witnessed any infrastructure or property development like it is experiencing currently. In late 1990s (Period 7), our government unrolled a plan to turn Punggol (a town in Northeast part of Singapore) into a vibrant town marked with water features.  The plan failed and Punggol remained unpopular with many Singaporeans unwilling to relocate there due to its lack of infrastructure and distance from town.  Today, Punggol and Sengkang (and to a lesser extent Pasir Ris) are two areas with the most number of condominium developments in Singapore.  What our government has failed to achieve, Feng Shui has made it possible!

Auspicious Star triggers boom in several trades

Flying Star Feng Shui can also explain several trends currently taking place in Singapore.  For instance, Star No 8 symbolises fingers, toes, child, among other things.  Therefore, in Period 8, trades involving these traits are expected to boom. Indeed, the last several years have seen certain trades like Medicare and Pedicare and Music (piano) blossoming in Singapore as those two trades involve heavy use of fingers.  In recent years, more parents are also engaging a private investigator to act as a "Private Eye" on their children.

Feng Shui and local politics

One can also feel the impact Feng Shui has on local politics in Singapore.  It is no coincidence that the constituency which comes under Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is Ang Mo Kio (another Northeastern town).   Prime Minister Lee took over office in 2005 (one year into Period 8).  In the watershed General Election in 2011, the ruling political party, People's Action Party (PAP) lost a Group Representative Constituency (GRC) for the first time in its history.  The GRC which they lost was Aljunied GRC (a GRC consisting of several wards in the northeastern part of Singapore).

Hougang and Punggol East By-Election due to Feng Shui

In 2011, Hougang constituency (yet another northeastern constituency) have to undergo a By-Election after the then-Member of Parliament (MP) was sacked by his political party, Workers' Party (WP) due to allegations of extramarital affairs.  And in January 2013, Punggol East constituency (also in Northeast Singapore) also witnessed another By-Election after the PAP MP in charge of the constituency was similarly accused of marital indiscretions.  It was the first time in the history of Singapore that a PAP MP has to resign due to allegation of improper conduct.  By-Elections are rare in Singapore and the fact that we have two By-Elections in two years and both took place in northeastern constituencies is a phenomenon remarkable in itself.

Auspicious Star helps Northeast MRT Line to kick off

Northeast MRT Line was originally scheduled for completion in December 2002 but was delayed due to various problems in automation.  It finally opened June 2003, just eight months before Period 8 took effect.  Even then, the line was heavily under-utilized and was unprofitable.  Two stations along the line was only opened in January 2006 (two years into Period 8) and the ridership on Northeast Line starts to rise to a level where it was financially viable.
